FURTHER UPDATE CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19): ALL JUNIOR AND SENIOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) UPDATE: ALL JUNIOR AND SENIOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED

Surf Life Saving South Australia continues to closely monitor the spread of this pandemic. Today, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a press conference to address the evolving situation and advised that by Monday, 16 March, a precautionary ban will be put in place to restrict the running of non-essential organised gatherings of 500 people or more.

As an organisation with a primary focus on public safety and an ethos of caring about people, we have an obligation to assist the government in meeting health objectives by doing what we can to slow transmission of COVID-19 among our members and members of the public as a whole.

With health advice regarding COVID-19 developing at a rapid rate, as you know we have made the proactive decision to cancel day 1 of Junior and Senior State Titles, scheduled for this weekend (14th & 15th of March). This update is to confirm that based on information and advice from State and Federal Government that day 2 and day 3 of both the Junior and Senior State Championships have also been cancelled (March 21st / 22nd & March 28th / 29th).

This decision has not been made lightly and is in the interests of our members, participants and spectators and the wider community more broadly, as the health of our members is our top priority. We will continue to follow the recommendations and advice from the government and other health-industry bodies regarding the best course of action to follow.

We share the disappointment of all of our competitors, officials, coaches and families that we know were eagerly awaiting our Junior and Senior State Championships. This disappointment is being shared right across the country with all other States also cancelling their pending Championships.

These are unprecedented times, but the health and well-being of our members must always be the priority and we will continue to do all we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
