Be part of something bigger

Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) is one of the state’s most iconic and highly trusted volunteer organisations, working tirelessly on the frontline, and behind the scenes, of coastal and in-land water safety.

But the red and yellow flags are just one part of the story. Beyond emergency and rescue services, SLSSA provides surf sport competition, vital training and water safety education across metro, regional and rural locations, and, importantly, a community hub and place of belonging.

SLSSA takes pride in building strong, connected and inclusive communities, and safer beaches and waterways for all. This is your opportunity to join our movement and make an impact, while becoming a part of a second family.

Become a Member

Surf Life Saving is a movement built on volunteers who love giving back to their community, looking for fun, fitness and new challenges.

Surf Life Saving is for everyone, and there are several ways you can get involved - both on and off the beach. The opportunities to volunteer with surf lifesaving go far beyond donning the red and yellow.

Become a Surf Lifesaver

Being a surf lifesaver is satisfying, fun and rewarding. You can lead a fit and healthy lifestyle, gain new skills and qualifications, compete in surf sports events, make new friends, and give back to your local community.

You may even save someone's life one day.

Join the Nippers

The Nippers program is a valuable opportunity for children aged 5 to 13 to join an active and friendly community while developing crucial life skills in surf awareness, beach patrols and surf sports.

Every club in South Australia offers a Nippers program, delivered between October and March by specially trained volunteers.

Children’s Water

Safety Programs

SLSSA offers specially designed programs for children from just one year old. Our fun, play-based programs offer children and their families an opportunity to learn about water safety, develop valuable lifelong skills, and gain confidence in all waterways.

Community Water Safety Programs

SLSSA offers a range of community water safety programs focusing on awareness, lifesaving skills and basic emergency procedures, surf sport skills, and swimming techniques.

These programs ensure all community members have the chance to be educated in a way that is suited to their needs.

Community Water

Safety Sessions

SLSSA offers specialised water safety sessions for different community groups.

These sessions can be in the form of a practical beach or pool program, informative presentations at a specified location, or an accredited training course, including First Aid, CPR, Pool Lifeguard and more.
